Five Moroccan universities have ranked among the top 100 in the Arab world with regards to global web performance, according to Webometrics 2017 international ranking of universities.

The Ranking Web, which ranks universities worldwide every six months, bases the ranking on four main indicators: the universities’ web presence, the volume and quality of their electronic publications, sites reserved for the research, and quality of the research results.

Marrakech’s Cady Ayyad University ranked first in Morocco, 28th in the Arab world, and 1994th worldwide out of 25,000 universities.

Mohamed I University in Oujda came in the second place. It is ranked 51st in the Arab World, and took 2461th place globally.

The third place in Morocco was taken by Rabat’s Mohammed V University, ranked as the 73th university in the Arab world and 2873rd place in the international list.

Surprisingly, Agadir’s Ibn Zohr University, classified at the 3168th place, had surpassed Al Akhawayn University. Al Akhawayn classified at 86th place in the Arab Word, while it had internationally ranked 3280th.

Fes’s Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, as the fifth best university in Morocco, took the 88th position in the Arab World and 3288th on the international ranking list.

Globally, King Saud University was the only Arab university that managed to get a place among the top 500 worldwide institutions. The Saudi Arabian university achieved first place in the Arab world and 428th internationally.
