The food given to schoolchildren in Goa under the mid-day meal scheme is unfit even for animals, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar claimed yesterday. He said the government wanted to improve the quality of the food served in its schools. “Even animals will not eat the food given to students under the scheme. The rice which is given is not fit for animal consumption,” he said. “We will decide by Diwali what is to be done. We have several alternatives to choose from,” he said. The minister said a lot of the food provided under the scheme was often wasted as students refused to eat it. Parrikar said one of the options was getting parent-teacher associations involved in the process.
