Dubai: In the UAE, colon cancer in Emirati men occurs at an earlier average age of 47 compared to 50 in the West. Given that colon cancer affects a younger age group in the UAE than in other parts of the world, cancer screenings are recommended at 40 years instead of 50. Doctors warn that if the screening age isn’t reduced, the country could witness a rise in colon cancer cases. The findings on the Pattern of colon cancer in the UAE, published in the Saudi Medical Journal, provided a springboard for action at this week’s awareness event on colon cancer.
