Health Minister Abdullatif Wreikat said his ministry, in coordination with the United Nations refugee agency, could provide medical, nursing and technical staff to help Syrian refugees in Jordan. “In order to offer service according to credible standards, the ministry would designate the right location for a field hospital,” he said during a meeting with a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR team. He said the ministry could offer logistical support, equipment, medical care units and laboratories, stressing close coordination between the ministry and the UNHCR. The UNHCR team aid they were interested in the ministry’s role as sponsor of the refugee services and said they would sign an agreement under which the ministry would draw up a working plan that sets the health needs of the displaced people and the method of implementation. Wreikat asked the ministry’s primary health care director Bassam Hijjawi to identify the refugees’ needs and set a vision for implementation through coordination with the refugee agency before signing the deal.
