The South Korean consul general in China said Wednesday that he had obtained only one document from China's local government about travel records of a North Korean defector at the center of an escalating controversy in Seoul over allegations the prosecution fabricated evidence to charge the defector with espionage. The remarks by Cho Baek-sang, consul general at the South Korean consulate in China's northeastern city of Shenyang, are expected to pose a possible diplomatic headache with China because they conflict with last week's statement by the Chinese Embassy in Seoul that all of the three China-issued documents about immigration records of the defector were fabricated.
