As many as 25,000 young men were recruited by Daesh in 2014, UN Envoy on Youth Ahmed Alhendawi said on Sunday.

Speaking to MENA, Alhendawi said the extremist groups exploit poor living conditions for young people and difficult economic situation in the region due to conflicts to persuade them to join these terrorist groups.

He made the remarks during his participation in the youth volunteering forum to face extremism being held in Kuwait. The forum lasts until December 11.

He called for uniting all efforts and urged regional governments and international agencies to provide more job opportunities for youth and pump more investments in education to better qualify them.

The UN is backing all efforts of the Arab League (AL) and Arab governments to provide best examples of young people, he asserted.
