President Mahmoud Abbas met Tuesday at his headquarters with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle where they discussed the situation in Gaza. Abbas stressed the importance of ending the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and to reach a truce to protect the unarmed Palestinian people. He said there are intensive contacts with all parties to reach calm in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible and to put a stop to the catastrophe the innocent people in Gaza suffers. Abbas said that the Palestinian effort to become a non-member state in the United Nations on November 29th aims at saving the peace process from collapse. Abbas also met the British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt and discussed with him the same issues.
