Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to advance bilateral ties for regional stability.

"We agreed on the need to promote strategic relations of mutual benefit to contribute to stability and prosperity of the region and the world," Abe told reporters after a 25-minute meeting with Xi on the sidelines of a summit of Asian and African leaders in Jakarta, according to Kyodo News Agency on Wednesday.

Abe said he will make joint efforts with Xi to develop bilateral relations by holding summits on the fringes of various international meetings in the future.
