Al-Azhar Islamic Research Academy condemned Saturday the terrorist attack that took place close to the Italian consulate in downtown Cairo on Saturday.

In a statement, the academy said that the incident will not damage the will of the Egyptian people.

Islam is free of any links to those terrorists, it said.

It urged the Egyptians to back the Armed Forces and the police to maintain the security and stability of the country.
