The Arab foreign ministers hailed European countries that took the initiative to shoulder its responsibilities in hosting the growing numbers of refugees, especially the governments of Germany, France, Austria and Sweden.

In a statement issued at the end of the 144 session of the Arab League foreign ministers council, the ministers urged other European countries to take similar actions.

Putting an end to the refugee crisis can only be addressed through concerted Arab, regional and international efforts to speed up finding a political solution for the basic crisis, the statement said.

The Arab council called on the UN Security Council to undertake political and moral responsibilities in this regard.

The council also stressed the firm commitment of Arab states to welcome refugees from countries that suffer from armed conflict and to provide all forms of support to them, according to the foundations of the brotherhood, political responsibilities and moral obligations towards refugees and displaced persons.

The council also praised Arab countries' efforts made to host Syrian refugees despite limited resources available.

The statement urged Arab and international donors to provide more direct support to Jordan, Lebanon and other Arab countries that host refugees.
