The headless bodies of at least six government construction workers were found in southern Afghanistan Sunday, police in Kandahar said. The slain workers were contractors building police stations and checkpoints in Kandahar province and were likely targeted by militant insurgents. A police spokesman told Khaama Press that another six bodies were found by villagers in another part of Kandahar province near the boundary with Zabul province. The victims were believed to be from Zabul; however no other details were available. The Taliban Sunday had not claimed responsibility for any of the deaths.
