The mission of the African Union Commission led by Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigerian president, arrived here Monday to monitor the Sudanese elections.

The mission includes a number of observers experienced in observing elections.

In post-arrival statements, Obasanjo pointed out to the importance of elections for the democratic process, adding that monitoring the election aims at guaranteeing transparency, credibility and integrity of the election.
