The Australian government condemned the terror attacks that targeted security checkpoints in Egypt's North Sinai.

"The Australian Government condemns the brutal attacks on Egyptian government checkpoints in the Sinai Peninsula on 1 July. We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Egyptian Military members who have been killed," according to a statement distributed by the Australian embassy here.

"These horrific attacks are further proof of Daesh's brutal aggression and disregard for human life and are yet another reminder of the heightened threat of terrorist attacks around the globe."

"Attacks such as these will only strengthen our resolve to combat Daesh and all other terrorist groups and the evil they represent."

On February 24, the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs listed Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis for targeted financial sanctions under UNSC Resolution 1373 on the prevention and suppression of terrorist acts. As a result, it is a serious criminal offense to use or deal with the assets of this organization or make assets of any kind available to it, directly or indirectly.
