The Kingdom of Bahrain has today addressed a memo to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in response to the statement by UN Spokesperson Martin Nesirky. Minister of State for Information Affairs and Government's Official Spokesperson Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab submitted the memo to United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) director for the Gulf Countries Nejib Friji. Here is the full text of the memo Letter from Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab, Minister of State for Information Affairs and Official Spokesperson of the Government of Bahrain to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in reference to the aforementioned statement. We would like to thank His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, for his keen interest in Bahrain, and would remind him that the Kingdom of Bahrain, a full UN member, has been confronting, for years now, a systematic terror campaign, perpetrated by a misled group directly condoned and harboured by extremist religious figures and backed by foreign parties, which provide radical ideological indoctrination, training on the use of home-made explosives and all types of weapons, which they get through smuggling, noting that Bahrain has foiled a number of dangerous smuggling operations. We would like to inform His Excellency the UN Secretary-General that the February 14 coalition, which operates outside the realm of the law on opposition societies and parties, calls for civil disobedience, disrupts citizens and residents' interests and attacks policemen with firebombs (Molotov cocktail bombs) and home-made explosives. We would also inform His Excellency Ban Ki-moon that this same group, officially branded a terror organisation by the Government of Bahrain, had claimed responsibility for planting booby-trapped cars in public places, which caused the death of a number of policemen and endangered citizens and residents' safety and security. We would like to draw the attention of His Excellency the UN Secretary-General that the authorities in Bahrain are dealing with these developments in accordance with the law and in full commitment to the international human rights conventions and the international human rights law. The authorities in Bahrain abides, with utmost transparency, with the legal measures in maintain social security and safety. We are confident that His Excellency the UN Secretary-General has full knowledge that His Majesty the King of Bahrain has repeatedly called on all political segments to engage in a serious and inclusive dialogue towards reaching a consensus approved by all social components, with the latest royal call dating back to last month. Bahrain is now undertaking the necessary measures to resume dialogue, which engages legal political associations only. Finally, we would like to inform Your Excellency, in virtue of your position as UN Secretary General and guarantor of the sovereignty of member states, that the radical groups and organisations advocate nothing but an agenda of violence and terror to terrorise innocent citizens and residents, in flagrant violation of national and international laws and covenants.
