UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon spoke by telephone with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to discuss the conflict in Syria, his press office announced on Wednesday. It said both officials discussed the Syrian crisis and the Secretary-General expressed hope that Iran "can help achieve a political solution to Syria's trauma." Iran reportedly sent advisors and soldiers fighting along with the Syrian army. It is still unknown whether Iran will be invited to attend Geneva II Conference on Syria, scheduled for January 22nd, aimed at finding a political transition in Syria.
