New York - SANA
UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said on Tuesday that the main goal of the international conference on Syria due to be held in June is to implement what was agreed upon in Geneva in June 2012 to resolve the crisis in it. In a press conference held in Cairo, Brahimi said that the Russian-US agreement on holding the conference is an important first step that must be followed by many other step to reach the desired result of ending the crisis in Syria. He pointed out that the region is suffering greatly due to the repercussions of the crisis in Syria, asserting that if it isn't resolved, then it will affect neighboring countries even more. On the chances of Saudi Arabia and Iran participating in the conference, Brahimi said that the UN and various sides – particularly Russia and the US – are discussing who will participate in the conference, adding that there isn't a fixed date for the conference yet, but it will be held in June. He said that the Syrian people have high hopes for the upcoming conference which the UN is working to organize as well as possible.
