Energy Secretary Ed Davey on Tuesday said he had granted permission to French firm EDF to construct Britain’s first new nuclear plant in a generation. The plant, the first of several planned, is to be built at Hinkley Point in Somerset, south-west England, and will eventually supply around seven per cent of the country’s electricity, dpa reported.
