British Ambassador to Egypt John Casson condemned the assassination of Prosecutor General Hesham Barakat in a car bomb blast in the Cairo district of Heliopolis Monday morning.

In a message on his Twitter account, the British diplomat tweeted "I condemn the terrorist murder of Hisham Barakat - an attack on Egypt & on us all. We grieve with Egyptians & will defeat this evil together."

He offered condolences to the Egyptians over the death of Barakat.
