Bulgaria supports Egypt’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council, Bulgarian Ambassador here Rumen Petrov said.

In an interview with MENA, Petrov said Bulgaria was one of the first countries to back the Egyptian UNSC seat request more than one year ago through constant contacts between the two foreign ministries.

The envoy said the two countries will hold political consultations in the fall as they were postponed due to the situation in Egypt in 2013 and the change of the Bulgarian government last year.

The volume of trade exchange between the two countries hit $457 million in 2014 against $320 million in 2013, he said.

Petrov said he had talks with the Egyptian supply minister over the Bulgarian wheat, noting that Sofia is giving special interest to the logistic grains center Egypt plans to establish in Damietta.

The Bulgarian tourism minister will visit Egypt soon to discuss aspects of cooperation, he said, adding that charter flights will be operated after the Islamic month of Ramadan from Cairo and Alexandria to Bulgaria’s Varna city.
