The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union Dr. Nkosazana C. Dlamini Zuma, has commended the great efforts made by Sudan and South Sudan to reactivate the demilitarized zone despite the tight schedule, praising the continuous role of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in supporting the two countries. Dr. Dlamini Zuma urged, in a statement Thursday UN Security Council members to provide full support for the process, including sending of additional troops in response to the request of the UNISFA to facilitate the protection of the observers of the control and monitoring mechanism at the borders. She welcomed the positive spirit of cooperation shown by the two parties, expressing her pleasure over the remarkable progress in the implementation of the agreements, adding that she believes that these measures are important in building mutual confidence between the two parties.
