China on Tuesday said that the current situation in the Middle East became so complicated and ambiguous after Bahrain and Sudan severed relations with Iran while the UAE has downgraded its diplomatic representation with Tehran, over a dispute that popped up between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying, in press statements, expressed hope that both Riyadh and Tehran would exercise self-restraint while dealing with their differences.

She added that China is not the only country in the world that is worried about the current situation.

Relations between Riyadh and Tehran were strained after Riyadh sentenced to death a Shiite scholar, a measure that infuriated Iran.
