Chinese police has detained two suspects allegedly involved in stopping Japanese Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa’s official car and ripping the Japanese flag off the vehicle last week, the Japanese Embassy in Beijing said Tuesday, according to Kyodo News Agency. The Beijing Public Security Bureau told the embassy that the two suspects, a 23-year-old man from Hebei Province and a 25-year-old man from Heilongjiang Province, were jailed for five days under China’s law on public security administration. The law grants police the authority to hold suspects for up to 15 days and to impose fines of up to 1,000 yuan ($157) for minor offenses such as damaging property.
