Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Wednesday received an invitation from his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to visit Beijing.

The invitation was handed over to Bashir by China's Environmental Protection Minister Chen Jining, who took part in the Sudanese president's inauguration ceremony.

In statements after meeting with Bashir, Jining said that he conveyed greetings of Jinping to the Sudanese leader.

He added that the meeting took up issues of mutual concern, pointing out that Beijing is keen on promoting relations with Khartoum.
