The issue concerning the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization can be resolved promptly with a coordinated work of ground military operations and air strikes, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Italian media.

"The fight against terrorism must be waged by ground forces with the support of aviation," the top Russian diplomat said. "The power of aviation [support] is ample if we add together the powers of the US-led coalition and Russia", according to Tass News Agency on Wednesday.

"In the event of the flawless coordination work with the ground forces, I have no doubts that the problem of the Islamic State can be resolved very quickly," Lavrov added.
