Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed on Saturday Egypt's commitment to support UN disarmament efforts.
At a meeting with visiting UN Acting High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Kim Won-soo and his accompanying delegation, Shoukry reviewed in detail Egypt's viewpoint regarding the disarmament issue that came on the agenda of the 70th UN General Assembly meetings.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid, the meeting came as part of efforts to promote Egypt's nomination for the UN Security Council membership.
While the top Egyptian diplomat highlighted the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve the goal of rendering the Middle East an area clear of weapons of mass destruction, the UN official lauded the Egyptian role in support of the UN disarmament efforts, the spokesman said.
Won-soo also voiced hope coordination with Egypt would continue in the coming stage, in support of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
