Assistant FM Farid Mounib

Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs Mohammad Farid Mounib has met with Acting Cuban Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina in Havana, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday.

During the meeting, Mounib handed Medina an invitation from Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to visit Cairo.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Mounib's visit to Havana comes as part of his tour of Latin America which took him to Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, Guatemala and Panama.

The Egyptian diplomat held a series of meetings with partisan and parliamentary leaders and agreed on holding a new round of political consultations between the two countries.

Mounib said talks focused on means of bolstering bilateral relations in all domains as well as activating the agreements signed between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Mounib voiced Egypt's thanks for the Cuban government for its decision to back Egypt's nomination to win a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council during the period 2016-2017.

On the other hand, the Cuban side was keen on listening to Mounib's explanation to the latest developments in Egypt, especially the political roadmap plan and the outcome of the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) held in Sharm El Sheikh in March.
