Egypt has always back African and Asian issues through its active participation in the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), said a counselor at the Egyptian embassy in Beijing.

Moataz Anwar was speaking at the AALCO's 54 session, which is held in China from April 13 to 17.

As a founding member of AALCO, Egypt has made significant contributions to the member states, increasing coordination and cooperation and safeguarding common interests, he said.

Anwar also touched on the challenges facing the two continents, particularly terrorism, cyber security, refugees and climate change.

He condemned the Israeli violations against the Palestinians, calling on the member states to place more pressure on Tel Aviv to stop its collective punishment policy toward the Palestinians.

The five-day event focuses on major substantive issues, including law of the sea, environment and sustainable development; and international trade law.

Also scheduled are a special event on commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, and an international colloquium on the UN Charter and the Post-war international order.
