The visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Addis Ababa that was preceded by his signing of the Declaration of Principles on Ethiopian Renaissance Dam represents Egypt's return to its leading role in Africa and the resumption of brotherly relations and longstanding cooperation, said the Saudi "Al Madinah" newspaper out on Wednesday.
In its editorial titled "Renaissance Dam", the paper highlighted the importance of the signing of the RD deal in principle by the leaders of Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt and affirmed the legitimate rights of Sudan and Egypt to Nile water quotas with Ethiopia's maintaining its right to development plans.
This balance, preserving all parties' interests, is assuring with 90 millions Egyptians worried over the River Nile, their only source of water with scarcity of rain fall on Egyptian lands, that had established the Egyptian civilization and represented a main axis for its development plans, the paper noted.
The deal also ended the tension in relations between Egypt and Ethiopia over the past few years, the paper noted, adding that this good step could have a positive outcome on all African countries.
