Egypt will pay the cost of restoring the Italian consulate which was damaged in a bombing on Saturday, said a spokesman for the foreign ministry.

The building, in downtown Cairo, was severely damaged due to the explosion which left one person dead and nine others injured.

Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni will visit Egypt during the coming few days as part of efforts to promote ties and cooperation, said Badr Abdel Ati, the spokesman of the foreign ministry.

A car bomb caused the blast, according to the initial inspection of the prosecution.
