UK FM Philip Hammond

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed with his UK counterpart Philip Hammond over the phone means of promoting bilateral ties.

The talks also took up regional issues with a special focus on the situation in Libya and efforts by United Nations envoy Bernardino Leon to achieve national unity and form a consensus government in the country, Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Aati said.

The formation of a Libyan national unity government should represent the will of the Libyan people shown in the last parliamentary elections, Shoukry told Hammond.

The pair also discussed the latest developments in Syria and Yemen, the spokesman added.
