Egypt's envoy to the UN in Geneva Amr Ramadan on Monday called on the Human Rights Council to deal seriously with Israel's violations of Palestinian rights.

Addressing the 30th session of the Human Rights Council, Ramadan condemned the Israel's unprecedented encroachment on the sanctity of Al Aqsa Mosque.

"Israel does not respect the freedom of religion and the Muslim freedom to practice their religious rituals and seeks to control the holy Mosque and to divide it temporally and spatially to impose a new politically motivated situation that explicitly contradicts with Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," the Egyptian envoy said.

He stressed that Al Aqsa mosque has a special status among Muslims.

"It is not owned by only Palestinians, but all Muslims all over the world," Ramadan said.

"Al Aqsa is the only holy site in the world that is under so much brutality and deliberate desecration," he added.

"Despise this situation, the Human Rights Council remains standing idle as if there is no flagrant violations of human rights under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights," the Egyptian envoy said.

In the Gaza Strip, humanitarian situation and human rights conditions have deteriorated as a result of repeated Israeli military operations there, in addition to the Israeli siege which has been imposed since years," he said.

Also, he pointed out to the illegal Israeli occupation of the Syrian Arab Golan Heights and several areas in the Lebanese territory.

He called on the Human Rights Council to carry out its international responsibilities in dealing with these violations.
