Cairo - MENA
The new constitutional declaration left the revolutionary powers no option other than continuing the revolution's march, an eight-party Egyptian coalition said in a statement Sunday. The coalition categorically rejects the declaration which violates democracy, adding that fortifying the president's decisions breaches all legitimacy principles. The coalition comprises the Equality and Development Party, Egypt Future Party, Egypt 2000 Party, Egyptian Umma Party, Egyptian Revolutionary Guard Party, Egyptian Revolution Party, Social Solidarity party (Al-Takaful) and the Democratic Unionist Party. Under the declaration, the president can take any decision or measure to protect the revolution and his decisions are "final and not subject to appeal." Under the declaration, the president sacked prosecutor general Adel-Medguid Mahmoud and appointed Talaat Ibrahim. The Judges' Club has in response suspended work in all courts and prosecution in protest at the declaration.
