Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow for talks over boosting bilateral cooperation, the impact of Libya developments on regional and international security and peace and the Syrian crisis.
Shoukry expressed Egypt's hope that Russia would be represented in the economic conference to take place in Sharm el Sheikh in March by delegations representing the government and the private sector, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Aati said.
The two ministers discussed the conflict in Libya and how it affects regional and international security and peace. They underlined the importance of backing the legitimate government in Libya in face of terrorism and encouraging political dialogue among warring sides.
Lavrov expressed Russia's support of current efforts at the Security Council to pass a draft resolution on Libya.
As for the Syrian crisis, they reviewed Egyptian efforts to unite the Syrian opposition to reach a political solution to the crisis.
They also tackled the Palestinian issue, activating the role of the Quartet and a possible visit by the committee to Cairo within the coming period to mull chances to resume peace talks between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
