Imam of the Omar Makram Mosque Sheikh Mazhar Shahin asserted on Friday that an Islamic project can not be built on a political group which is concerned only with its interests and pursues conflict policy with others. Speaking at Friday sermon at Tahrir Square, Shahin asserted that Egypt\'s president should work on achieving national unity and nipping in the bud any sectarian strife. Al-Azhar is a reference and a symbol of the Islamic world and its fatwas and views should be respected, Shahin added. He reaffirmed the necessity of respecting court rulings and enforcing them without any exception or nepotism. He also asserted that separating religion from politics is a big lie, saying that people should be briefed on their living conditions.
