Egyptian Ambassador to Japan Ismail Khairat held a meeting on Saturday with Special Representative of the Government of Japan for the Middle East Masaharu Kohno.

The meeting took up peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis after the formation of a new government, a statement by Egypt's foreign ministry said.

Also, they discussed efforts that can be exerted by the Japanese envoy to push the peace process forward, the statement said.

During a visit to Palestine and Israel in May, the envoy held meetings with negotiators and officials from both sides in a bid to revive the process.
