Egypt's permanent delegate to the United Nations Ambassador Amr Ramadan on Saturday criticized the human rights record in some western countries which are witnessing growing racism and hatred against Islam.
This came in a statement read out by the diplomat during a discussion held by the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on the state of racism all over the world with the attendance of the French justice minister.
The diplomat said that Egypt is satisfied with the solid international consensus over the issue of combating racism and hatred of foreigners.
"This commitment has turned in several countries to real measures which are aimed at addressing the main challenges in this regard," Ramadan said.
However, he added that Egypt is deeply concerned over the continued and different forms of racism, racial discrimination, non-tolerance and hatred against foreigners.
He noted that the killings of Michael Brown and other Afro-American citizens in the United States last year reflected the major challenge which still needs to be addressed after years of struggle in the US for the civil freedoms and combating racism.
He called for taking institutional measures and policies which guarantee the active accountability and the immediate cease of the ethnic discrimination which is claimed to be coupled with the excessive use of power by forces enforcing law.
