No arrests had been made in the beating and stabbing deaths of an elderly Canadian couple in their home in Mexico, a family member said Monday. A gardener found the bodies of Edward Kular, 84, of Scarborough and Nina Discombe, 72, of Ottawa Sunday in the home they bought in Ajijic, in west-central Mexico's Jalisco state six months ago, police said. "They were brutally beaten and stabbed. They were targeted," Kular's daughter-in-law, Christine, of Aurora, Ontario, told the Toronto Sun. "At this point we have more questions than answers. I hope they catch these bastards." The couple were the apparent victims of a home invasion, the newspaper said. "They stole everything. They even took their two vehicles. We are just in shock and can't believe it. I wouldn't wish this on anyone," Christine Kular said. "It hasn't hit home yet." She said the couple had been dating for seven years. He was a retired printer and she was a writer.
