EU spokesperson for foreign affairs Catherine Ray on Wednesday urged the Iranian authorities not execute Mr. Saman Naseem, an Iranian-Kurdish man who was apparently a minor at the time of the crime for which he has been convicted.
"We call on the Iranian authorities to abide by international human rights law, under which the execution of juvenile offenders is a violation of international minimum standards, and not to carry out the execution of Mr Naseem or any other juvenile offender," Ray said in a statement.
According to media reports, Naseem was arrested in July 2011 following a gun battle in the city of Sardasht with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
