A senior European Union (EU) official on Tuesday called for supporting Egypt's democratic march.

The EU should support the country's democratic transition, he added in statements to a German newspaper.

The head of the EU foreign relations committee pointed out that Egypt has been suffering harsh economic and social conditions since the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
