President of the European Commission (EC) Jose Manuel Barroso arrived in Chisinau on Thursday evening for a two-day visit in Moldova, according to news reaching here from the Moldovan capital of Chisinau. During his first visit as EC head to Moldova, Barroso would hold a number of talks with Modovan leaders on Friday, including Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu and President Nicolae Timofti. He will also meet with leaders of parliamentary groups, but the Communists, the biggest parliamentary faction and the only opposition, announced that they won\'t participate in the meeting with Barroso. Barroso\'s visit shows an increased trust in the European perspectives towards the eastern European country which has been working hard lately to bring their legislation in line with the EU standards, according to the local independent portal Moldova.org. In August, German Chancellor Angela Merkel also made her first visit to Moldova.
