Former Chadian president Hissene Habre was arrested on Sunday morning at his residence in the Senegalese capital Dakar, according to local radio RFM. Habre was taken away from home by the Senegalese gendarmerie, the privately owned radio said, citing his wife and lawyer. \"Hissene Habre has been abducted and taken to an unknown place, \" his adviser Me El Hadj Diouf said. There is no indication from official sources on the motives of the arrest of Habre, who has been in exile in Dakar since the fall of his regime in 1990, after eight years in power. The ex-head of state of Chad is accused of anti-humanity crimes, as well as the crimes of war and torture. The African Union has demanded his trial in Senegal. The Senegalese authorities set up extraordinary African chambers early in the year for the judgement of the former Chadian president, who is facing crime charges committed between 1982 and 1990.
