1915 killings of Armenians

Clashes broke out between a group of students and private security guards from İstanbul Technical University (İTÜ), over an event to commemorate the 1915 killings in Armenia, Today's Zaman reported on its website.

According to the Doğan news agency, a group of students attempted to organize a commemoration event over the 1915 killings of Armenians at the hands the Ottoman rulers of the time, and unfurled banners and placards at the Maslak campus of İTÜ with the intention of doing so.

However, the students were faced with the intervention of the university's security guards. These security guards reportedly used their batons while students threw chairs at them.

The Cihan news agency reported that police who came to the campus in response to the clash reportedly fired plastic bullet at the protesters.
