Spokesman of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement Wednesday, said France condemned Jewish settlers setting fire to a monastery in Latrun, an area west of Jerusalem, describing it as an act of vandalism directed at a place of worship and peace. It expressed its wholehearted solidarity with the community of monks, “The Cistercian Abbey of Latrun is a religious community protected by France under the so-called Chauvel-Fischer agreements concluded with the State of Israel,” said the statement. France called on the Israeli authorities to shed full light on these serious acts and to bring those responsible to justice.
