France has condemned the attack on the Italian consulate in downtown Cairo, which left one person dead and nine others injured.

The French Foreign Ministry, in a statement released on Saturday, asserted its backing for Egypt and Italy in combating terrorism.

Paris also voiced solidarity with families of the victims and the Italian and Egyptian authorities.
