French authorities have condemned intense bombing by the Syrian army of the eastern Ghouta district in the suburbs of Damascus where at least 200 people died and about 1,000 were wounded, most of them civilians, a statement said here Friday night.
The French Foreign Ministry also indicated that hospitals were hit in the Syrian regime bombardment.
"For two years, the eastern Ghouta region has been under siege by the regime, which is preventing humanitarian access and continues to massively bombard civilians," the statement said.
"These barbaric actions by the regime of Bashar Al-Assad violate the most elementary principles of humanitarian law. They could constitute war crimes. Those responsible must give account in front of the courts," France said.
