France has condemned a Syrian air raid into Lebanon, describing it as a “new serious violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty”.“The air raid carried out by the armed forces of the Syrian regime in Lebanese territory, in the Ersal area, constitutes a new and serious violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty,” French Foreign Ministry spokesman Philippe Lalliot said in a statement.“France strongly condemns this escalation and reiterates its commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and the inviolability of its borders,” the spokesman added.
