The Hamas-led Palesninian Government in Gaza declared the 22nd of November as a National Day marking the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel following an-eight day fierce strikes between the two sides. Palestinians deemed the ceasefire-truce, that came into effect Tuesday night, “a victory” over Israel’s military offensive. They took to the streets, firing their guns into the air in celebration. Egypt made efforts brokering a ceasefire between the two sides since last week. The cease-fire was announced in a joint news conference in Cairo with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr. The fighting between Israel and Hamas was triggered when Israel military forces assassinated Ahmed al-Ja’abari, the head of Hamas military wing. Retaliation hit-backs from Hamas and fierce airstrikes from Israel followed, bringing the Palestinian death toll to 170, and the Israeli death toll to Five.
