Georgia has named an acting chief of joint staff after its formal military chief was suspended from office for alleged abuse of power. Local media InterPressNews on Monday quoted the Georgian Defense Ministry as saying that Vakhtang Kapanadze is taking over the position from Giorgi Kalandadze due to the latter\'s situation. The Tbilisi City Court has suspended Kalandadze from duty on charges of abuse of authority. The 32-year-old brigadier general has been released on bail from pre-trial detention. Kapanadze served as the chief of joint staff for six months in 2004 and has been serving as the first deputy chief of joint staff since Nov. 2.
