Berlin - MENA
The Chief of Protocol in the German Foreign Ministry, Jürgen Mertens, visited the Egyptian Embassy here Friday to offer condolences to Egyptian Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy over the death of Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat and army personnel who were killed during terrorist attacks in North Sinai last week.
Mertens expressed his country's condemnation of terrorism and stressed support for Egypt in its war against extremism.
For his part, Hegazy told MENA on Friday that Germany slammed the assassination and all kinds of terrorist acts.
He further said that combating terrorism must be achieved quickly, adding that extremism threatens the Middle East region as well as Europe.
The sacrifices of the Egyptian army personnel will not go in vain, Hegazy underscored.
Egypt is the only country that is able to restore security in the Middle East, he reiterated, noting that its partners should offer support.
