The German Federal Police will open an office at Germany's embassy in Tunisia to contribute to efforts aiming at combating terrorism and human trafficking.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière said the move is part of Berlin's efforts to stabilize Tunisia and establish security in the region, especially after the terrorist attacks in Sousse.

Germany had sent one of its border guards to Tunisia in July, and will dispatch two others in September to work at the office of the Federal Police there.

The new office will organize training courses to Tunisian border police and will help in combating human trafficking.

On June 26, 2015, the resort city of Sousse witnessed a terror attack, which claimed the lives of 38 people when an armed gunman attacked a hotel.
